Richard Reed Venskus

MEXICO – Mr. Richard Reed Venskus, 63, died Tuesday Feb. 23, 2021 at his home on Roxbury Road in Mexico.

Born in Rumford on Oct. 21, 1957, he was a son of Benjamin and Muriel (Brown) Venskus. He was a graduate of Mexico High School and Central Maine Technical College. Richard served in the United States Army. He worked as an electrician for the Veteran’s Administration before a knee injury forced him into retirement.

He was an avid sports fan and spent many years coaching football and baseball for his son. He loved pick up wiffle ball games with his family and was always watching his beloved New England sports teams. He was always the jokester and if he knew you, you probably had a nickname whether you liked it or not.

He is survived by a son, Daniel Venskus and his girlfriend Veronica Keddy of Somerville, Mass., a daughter, Amy Westerlind and husband Brian of Ashland, Mass.; a brother, Benjamin Venskus and wife Connie of Rumford, sisters, Sandy Walker and husband David of Dixfield and Kathy Venskus and longtime companion Brent Armstrong of Greene; grandchildren, Kendall and Connor Westerlind; many nieces and nephews including a special nephew that he was close to, David LaFleur and wife Sally of Hartford; as well as many friends at the VFW hall in Rumford.

Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Lithuanian Cemetery in Mexico. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader and Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford.
