A bitter, cold air mass is expected to blast through interior Maine on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. This has prompted a high wind warning and wind chill advisory for parts of Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties.
Northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are expected. Gusts over 70 mph are likely on the mountain peaks in the recreational areas of the western Maine mountains. Combined with low temperatures, wind chills as low as 25 below zero.
The wind chill advisory is from 2 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. High winds are expected to continue until 3 p.m. Tuesday.
IMPACTS
• The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
• Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines.
• Widespread power outages are expected.
•Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
