Donald E. Clifford

DIXFIELD – Donald E. Clifford, 97, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn. He resided on the Canton Point Road in Dixfield. Born in Rumford, Maine, on Dec. 29, 1923, he was a son of Charles and Myrtle (Taylor) Clifford. He was a graduate of Woodstock High School in Bryant Pond class of 1942. Donald worked as an Instrument Technician for Boise Cascade Paper Mill until his retirement in 1985. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Eagles and Knights of Pythias.

Donald enjoyed spending time at his camp on Emden Pond where he loved to fish. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and faithfully watched them on TV. He was a successful hunter and he loved to play cribbage with his family. He made the best apple pie from scratch up until last year.

He was married to Thelma Smith who died in 1960 and then to Ethlyn White who died in 2015

Survivors include his daughters, Dolores Danforth and husband Wilfred, Jr of Auburn, Diane Bryant and husband Mark of Windham, and Nadia Quimby of Bradenton, Fla., grandchildren, Monica, Sarah, Noah, Joshua, Adam, Jamie and great grandchildren, Lexi, Maggie, Clara, Adri, Diam, and newly born, Paxton. And a special friend and neighbor, Bill Perry. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters, Maxine Bean and Phyllis Lowe, grandson Matthew Danforth, great granddaughter Atalie Danforth.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m, Friday March 5, 2021, at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford, Maine. We will be following social distancing and masks will be required. Interment will be in the Abbotts Mill Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader and Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford.
