William B. Hird

AUBURN – William B. Hird, 86, of Turner, Maine, died March 3, 2021, at The Hospice House in Auburn.

He was born on July 5, 1934, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The son of William B.A. and Eva F. Hird. A graduate of Exeter, N.H., high school and New Hampton Prep School in New Hampshire. He then attended Bowdoin College. Later he studied accounting and business administration in Portland, Maine. He worked for Hannaford Bros. Co. in the Portland and Scarborough offices and Sampson Supermarkets in the Skowhegan and Auburn offices. He operated the Chick-A-Dee Restaurant in Turner, Maine, from July 1971 to May 2012. He enjoyed kayaking, bike riding, golfing, traveling and square dancing.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wives, Nancy, Ann and Marguerite Hird. He is survived by his children: Linda H. Scholl and her husband John, Darcy St. Hilaire and her husband Daniel, William B. II and his wife Lisa, Gregory L. and his wife Marcie. He had 13 great-grandchildren and nine grandchildren: Jamie Hird (Chad), Tom Hird, Matt Hird, Ashley Compeau (Bill), Lucas St. Hilaire (Timberlee), Cassandra Estal (Dan), Gregory Hird II (Meghan), Callie Hird (Will) and Shawn Hird (Amanda).

Visitation will be at Fortin’s in Auburn Monday, March 8, from 3-6 p.m. Funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday March 9, at 11 a.m., at East Auburn Baptist Church, 560 Park Ave., Auburn.
