LEWISTON – Aaron David Rand, 51, of Auburn passed away unexpectedly due to injuries sustained in an accident on March 5, 2021 at Central Maine Medical Center. He was born in Lewiston on August 8, 1969 to Casey and Pat Rand.

He grew up in Auburn graduating from Edward Little High School in 1987. He attended Central Maine Community College. He married his wife Christine in January 2012. He was employed at Bow St. Market in Freeport as a Produce Manager.

“Coach” Rand spent many years coaching area youth in various sport including baseball, softball and hockey in youth leagues. He began coaching middle and high school sports at ELHS in his 30’s as an assistant coach for boys hockey. In addition to this, he coached at Poland high school for girls soccer and boys hockey, returning to ELHS to coach girls soccer in 2018. Most recently he had coached the Bates College mens hockey league. Coaching was a passion of Coach Rand’s. He has touched the lives of numerous youths throughout his tenure as a coach and mentor. He truly enjoyed coaching and being able to touch and impact so many young athletes who loved the sport as much as he did.

He as an avid Boston Bruins fan, following them since childhood, sharing his passion with his parents, children, wife and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, hiking and fishing, having prowess in each of these areas. He loved golf and competing with his friends in this sport that brought him such joy.

He and his wife purchased their dream home in early 2020 where he could often be found engaging in building and beautification projects to truly make it his own. He loved sharing his home with all and hosted a dart league with his close friends weekly that he absolutely looked forward to as much as they did.

Perhaps Aaron will be remembered best by all for his ability to be kind to all and his clever wit. Always one to share a joke, a story, he had the ability to make people laugh which he enjoyed. He loved to share whatever he had whether it was his home, food and drink or his time; he was always giving. The love he had for his children, family and friends was strong, always genuine and always there. He will truly be missed by those of us who loved him; we are grateful to have had our lives blessed by this amazing man.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Plourde Rand; his daughter Abbie Leclair and her husband Josh, daughter Molly Rand and her wife Mae, his son Nevin Rand and his wife Lydia; two beautiful grandchildren Mabel Joy and Finley David; his parents Casey and Pat Rand; his sister Lori Rioux and her husband Keith; his nieces Kacie Rioux and Emily Rioux; and his beloved dart league brothers Phil Poirier, Larry Roy, Jim Pomerleau, Jim Marston and Tony Olhmstead.

The family wishes to give their heartfelt thanks to the staff at CMMC ICU, especially his nurses Jayna, Marc and Allison for the amazing and compassionate care Aaron and the family received while he was a patient; they made a difficult time easier with their support and unparalleled care. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at Fortin\Auburn on Saturday March 13, 2021 from 2 to 6 p.m. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, only 50 people are allowed in the funeral home at one given time. The family thanks you in advance for your understanding of this. An “Irish Wake” hosted by the family will also take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, persons who wish to donate may do so to the “Aaron Rand Memorial Scholarship Fund” for athletes pursuing higher education attending ELHS.
