The power play was clicking for the Maine Nordiques on Friday. They scored three goals with Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks players in the box in a 4-1 victory in a North American Hockey League East Division matchup at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

The Nordiques (23-11-1, 47 points) now have 23 power play goals this season, which places them in seventh in the entire NAHL.

Forward Makem Demers had a goal and an assist for the Nordiques, and Tyriq Outen stopped 34 of 35 shots in goal for Maine

The Hat Tricks (12-11-2, 26 points) had their skating legs early in the first period, and Jason Kleinhans gave Danbury a 1-0 lead in the opening five minutes in the game. The goal came during a power play as Tristan Fasig was in the box for the Nordiques. Nolan Barrett and Levi Stauber had the assists.

Maine scored its own power play goal, by defenseman Casper Soderling, just past the three-minute mark of the second period. Soderling’s defensive partner Cooper Swift and forward Makem Demers had the assists.

Six minutes later, Demers scored his sixth goal of the season to give the Nordiques a 2-1 lead. Isaiah Fox and University of Maine commit Tyler Gaulin had the assists.

With less than eight minutes remaining in the second, Patrick Schmiedlin scored his seventh goal since joining the Nordiques in January. It came on the man advantage, with defenseman James Philpott and forward Cannon Green recoding the assists.

The Nordiques’ power play remained hot in the third period. Defenseman Andrew Noel found the back of the net for his first goal of the season with less than eight minutes remaining in the game. Fasig and defenseman Hunter Carrick set up the goal.

Goalie Edvard Nordlund stopped 34 shots for Danbury.

Danbury had three fighting majors in the game, while the Nordiques had two.

The teams meet two more times at the Colisee this weekend, Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
