Wilfrid M. Fournier

AUBURN – Wilfrid M. Fournier, was born in Lewiston on Dec 1, 1921 and died March 8, 2021 in Harpswell. He was the son of Abel and Marie Fournier. Dad was a graduate of Edward Little High School and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in World War II. Dad owned and operated Fournier’s Body Shop and later Fournier’s Appraisal Service. He married his life partner, Lorraine V. Laliberte and they began their wonderful life together on Oct. 21, 1944.

Dad was an outstanding football player and an accomplished musician playing the violin and trombone. His energy and love of the outdoors helped him accomplish his many dreams involving hunting, fishing and his pride and joy, lobstering. After 58 years he gave up his lobstering and watched his daughter, Sonia Tyler and his grandson, Kevin Pratt, pick up the gauntlet and continue the process. Dad anchored our family with his gentle nature, a soft approach to life and his ability to want you to do the right thing. Because of his strength and sharing his thoughts about life and the meaning of death we understand and accept our inability to avoid it; because of his insights we can celebrate his life and cope with his passing.

He is survived by his daughter, Sonia Tyler and her husband Donald of Harpswell, his son, Marc and wife Jean of Brunswick and Florida. Dad has five grandsons, Kevin Pratt and wife Allie of Minot, Kenneth Pratt and wife Melissa of Greene, Matthew Fournier and wife Susan of Greene, Traverse Fournier and wife Sharon of Yarmouth and Nicholas Lawton of Tacoma, Wash. There are nine great grandchildren and numerous wonderful extended family members.

Dad was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; his daughter, Carol Woodbury; his numerous brothers and sisters.

Dad was cared for by his loving daughter, Sonia Tyler, at her and husband Don’s home in Harpswell for the last seven of his 99 years on this earth. The family was gifted with his lengthy presence because of Sonia’s devotion and love of her Dad. We are eternally grateful for Sonia extending Dad’s life.

A private celebration of his life will be held in early summer.
