Gallery 302 in Bridgton will feature Ruth Boisvert, a member of its cooperative of over forty artists, at 112 Main St. in Bridgton.

Boisvert has always been drawn to 3-dimensional art and her original passion was ceramics but now she is focusing her attention on needle felting. Ruth attended the School for American Craftsmen in Rochester, New York, majoring in ceramics with a minor in art history. After college, she returned to school to study computer science and then worked for over 30 years in insurance and state government as a system’s analyst. She continued to study ceramics at Maine College of Art on and off through the years.

Boisvert’s latest creations are her “Literary Feltations.” Boisvert says, “I have always loved reading. I still have many of my childhood books and vivid memories of many beloved characters. I was thrilled that my 2 sons shared my love of books and story time as much as I did. The kids are grown but the memories remain. I have been bringing my memories and these characters to life through my needle felting. Needle felting is the process of transforming wool into 3-D objects using a barbed needle. When you felt wool, you’re agitating the fibers, so they bond together, creating a solid dense fabric. I use a wire armature and then add wool fleece as I build structure and character to the piece. Some are gently pose-able. They are sculptures and are not suitable as toys. I will be donating 5% of my sales to the Bridgton Public Library.”
