Sisters Angie Fontaine-Larochelle, left, Melissa Fontaine-Field, center, and Crystal Fontaine-Bergeron, the new owners and second generation to head Fontaine Family Team – The Real Estate Leader, have taken over for their mother, Brenda Fontaine.

AUBURN — Fontaine Family Team – The Real Estate Leader, a business over 60 agents strong and the recipient of the 2019 Maine Family Business of the Year, has been sold to the second generation of daughters, Melissa Fontaine-Field, Angie Fontaine-Larochelle and Crystal Fontaine-Bergeron.

With a combined 70 years of leadership experience in real estate, the women provide a solid foundation on which to build the future of the business.

Brenda Fontaine, who began as a real estate agent in 1983, first brought family members, husband Claude and daughter Melissa, onboard in 1992. Over the years, other family members joined the team, including daughters Angie (’01) and Crystal (’94), followed by sons-in-law Bill Bergeron (’99) and Clayton Larochelle (’00) and grandson Dustin Larochelle (’19). In 2009, the Fontaine Team – The Real Estate Leader opened a brokerage and, in recent years, select agents from outside the Fontaine family have also been embraced as team members.

Today, with two locations, one in Auburn and another in Scarborough, the new owners are preparing to expand into New Hampshire, by becoming licensed to sell and list properties in that state.

While she is no longer the front person of the business, Brenda Fontaine will remain active as a consultant to her daughters and as a mentor and training coach for the team.
