Beware the “Republican Negative Propaganda” machine, which is spinning lies, diversions, division, deception, conspiracies and hate about the newly-passed American Rescue Plan.

This bill provides additional relief to address the continued impact of COVID-19 on the economy, public health, state and local governments, individuals, businesses and COVID-19 distribution and vaccinations. This plan was designed to help middle class and poor Americans. It is not a handout to the billionaires.

The plan is designed to “rescue” the people, both directly and indirectly, from the effects of the yearlong pandemic. About 90% of Mainers will be helped.

The American Rescue Plan includes fund assistance for rent, mortgage, small businesses (Paycheck Protection Program), health care and transportation workers, education K-college, tribal government, scientific research, rural health care providers, unemployment benefits, a rebate of up to $1,400 per eligible individual, $10,200 of 2020 unemployment compensation tax-free, modifications to certain child tax credits and earned income tax credits, COVID-19 vaccines and treatment  paid under Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and aid to state and local governments for lost revenue.

All House Republicans, plus Rep. Jared Golden (D) and the Senate, voted against this bill — not wanting to help the middle class and poor — complaining about the national debt. These very same Republicans raised the debt several trillions over the Trump Administration.

Apparently Republicans will not be applying for or using any of these programs, and will be returning the $1,400. Here is where to send back the $1,400: U.S. Treasury, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20220.
