George “Frank” Coffin

WATERVLIET, N.Y. – George “Frank” Coffin formerly of Lewiston, 78, passed away on March 25, 2021, at the home of his daughter from complications from stage iv lung cancer. Frank was born on June 20, 1942, in Lewiston to George and Yolande (Ginchereau) Coffin. He attended Lewiston schools, graduating as a member of the Lewiston High School class of 1960. Immediately upon graduation, Frank joined the United States Air Force, serving for four years. After returning from active duty he worked at Lawrence and Company, and then E. A Buschmann, Inc. for over 25 years. Upon retirement, and as Frank frequently said “with a name like Coffin, what else would I do;” he worked part-time for Fortin’s Funeral Home completing a host of tasks until in early 2020 when he fully retired. Frank spent many years as a resident of Sabattus and Lewiston. He served as a minister of the Eucharist for of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sabattus as well as served on the Parish Council. He was a member of the Sabattus Volunteer Fire Department and served as an omsbudsman for several years. He was a lover of a good steak, an avid trivia game player, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends through the years. Frank left his beloved hometown to live with his daughter and family in October 2020 due to his declining health. He loved every moment spent with his family, especially his three grandsons; of whom he was immensely proud.

Frank is survived by his only child, Sheri Shaw and her husband Stephen, of Watervliet, New York, along with grandsons Graham, Liam, and Logan. Brother and sister-in-law, William and Anne Coffin of Lewiston, niece and husband Cynthia and Matthew Bradshaw, and nephew and wife Brian and Heidi Coffin, and great-niece Jocelyn Coffin.

Frank was predeceased by his parents.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Frank’s “Fortin Family” and Anne and Bill Coffin who helped him in numerous ways in his final months in Lewiston, and for the visit they paid him in New York less than a month before his passing; it meant the world to him. We would also like to thank the staff members of Community Hospice for their support, especially Mary Beth and Joe. The unwavering support of numerous friends and neighbors which Sheri and family received can never be adequately repaid.
