Judith P. Baird

LEWISTON – Judith P. Baird, 76, of Lewiston, passed away on March 29, 2021. Born in Boston, Mass. March 24, 1945, she was the adopted daughter of the late Parker and Eleanor (Peabody) Gammon.

She graduated from the Good Will/Hinkley School, Hinckley, Maine in 1963 and went on to attend Husson College in Bangor. While at Good Will she was very active in basketball, tennis, softball, field hockey manager and choir where she was Vice President her senior year. She took part in the Kennebec Valley Concerts, Independent School Music Festivals, as well as the Maine Music Festival all four years.

She lived in Southbridge, Mass. for five years and after coming back to New Hampshire she and her former husband were charter members of the White Mountain Riders Motorcycle Club out of Berlin, N.H. They worked very hard each year to put on the Blessing of the Motorcycles from the Shrine in Colebrook, N.H.

Mrs. Baird lived in Lancaster, N.H. where she worked for her adoptive parents in the family owned Sullivan Drug Store as a Pharmacy Technician. She also lived in Dover, N.H. and Laconia, N.H. where she worked at Lemay’s Garage in Gilford as a receptionist/bookkeeper. She and her husband came back to Lancaster for three years before coming to Sabattus in November 1994. In the 94-95 season she worked for H&R Block in the Sears store as a receptionist.

In May, 1995 she was pleasantly surprised to learn she had a birth sister and two brothers and became quite close to them. One of her brothers, Larry, had also gone to Good Will/Hinkley back in the late 60’s.

In October, 1995 she suffered a stroke which left her severely memory impaired. In spite of this she became one of the Charter Members of TOPS #294 that met at the Salvation Army Building. She was also a trustee of the Sixth Street Congregational Church and later became a member of the search committee when the pastor left.

She traveled extensively with her husband going to Las Vegas many times to visit her sister, Bermuda to visit her brother Bruce when he lived there, Hawaii, Mississippi, Louisiana and Florida. Her husband, Milton, passed away in June 2009.

She is survived by two sons, Ross E. Gilchrist and his sons, Jonathan and Joshua of Lewiston, and Jason S. Gilchrist of Sabattus, a great- granddaughter; her sister Pam Crawford and husband Bobby of Pahrump, Nev., brother Larry Yarmaloff and his wife Stephanie of Windham, brother-in-law Brian W. Baird and his children of Auburn. She was predeceased by her brother Bruce W. Weyland of Las Vegas.

There will be no calling hours or funeral at her request. Private burial will be held at Mountain-View Cemetery in Troy, N.H.
