Lorraine M. Belanger

LEWISTON – On Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 10:53 a.m., our beautiful mother, Lorraine M. Belanger, passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side at the age of 97.

She was born on Sept. 4, 1923, the daughter of Alphee and Leontinne (Lacroix) Mathieu in St. Cyprien (Bellchasse) Quebec.

She moved to Lewiston at the age of 14. Lorraine, at a young age, began working in the Androscoggin Mill and also the Bates Mill. At the age of 16, she met the love of her life Lucien Belanger and they were married on Jan. 26, 1946.

Lorraine was a kind and gentle soul and loved her family unconditionally.

She is survived by her children, Maurice Belanger and his wife Claire, Roland Belanger, Denis Belanger and his companion Terry and her daughter-in-law, Doris Belanger; her grandchildren, Michelle Stone and her husband Aaron, Marc Belanger and his wife Jessica, Bryan Belanger and Jeff Belanger and his wife Mariah; her great-grandchildren, Aiden, Larson, Max, Patrick and Adeline; her sister, Marielle Bisson and her husband Stan of Big Bear Lake, Calif. and her brother, Raymond Maurice and his wife Anita of Sabattus, her sister-in-law, Toni Mathieu of Sabattus; and many nieces and nephews.

She is now joined in Heaven by her husband, Lucien; her parents, and stepfather, Wilfred Maurice; her brothers, Joachim, Paul, Real and Guy Mathieu and especially her very best friend and sister-in-law, Yvette Belanger.

The family would like to thank the nurses, Barbara and Aimee of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for the care to our mother and a very special thank you to her daughter-in-law, Doris Belanger for the special care that she gave to our mother the last two and half months of her life.

A funeral mass honoring Lorraine’s life will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 6 at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church. Committal prayers will follow at 1 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. only at the Pinette Dillingham and Lynch Funeral Home, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway in Lewiston, 784-4023. Online condolences and sharing of memories may be expressed at http://www.lynchbrothers.com.
