DIXFIELD — The town’s historical society recently received a framed poster from 1921 announcing the inaugural baseball games at Harlow Park.

John S. Harlow had donated the park to the town with the stipulation that the land must always be used as a public park for all Dixfield citizens. The town selectmen accepted the land in 1920, and a state-of-the-art ball field was made ready for the 1921 season.

Terry Ionta donated the framed poster in honor of his mother and father for display at the Dixfield Historical Society Museum House. Ionta’s father, Bitsy Ionta, is a member of the State of Maine Baseball Hall of Fame.
