JAY — Regional School Unit 73 Superintendent Scott Albert announced Tuesday afternoon that Spruce Mountain Middle School would switch to fully remote learning the rest of the week because a student has tested positive for COVID-19.
“We are in the process of contacting all staff and students who had close contact with this individual during the infectious period,” he wrote to staff, students and families. “This student and any close contacts will follow (Center for Disease Control) guidelines and will only return to school after those guidelines have been met.
“Out of an abundance of caution, Spruce Mountain Middle School and only Spruce Mountain Middle School will go fully remote for the remainder of this week,” his letter said. “They will return to in-school instruction after school vacation on Monday, April 26.”
All non-remote teachers will be allowed one day to prepare for going fully remote if they need it, he noted.
Classes will resume either Wednesday, April 14, or Thursday, April 15, for all remote learning.
Parents and students are asked to check their teachers’ Google classroom to be prepared.
“All SMMS extra and cocurricular activities are suspended until Monday, April 26, as well,” Albert said. “All other schools in the district will continue to follow the hybrid schedule. If we receive further updates from the Maine CDC we will share them with you.”
Students from Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls attend RSU 73 schools.
