ATLANTA — Dansby Swanson’s RBI single with the bases loaded capped Atlanta’s two-run rally in the ninth inning, and the Braves beat the Miami Marlins 7-6 Thursday to snap a four-game losing streak.

The Braves recovered after blowing a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth. Garrett Cooper singled to put Miami ahead.

Dylan Floro (0-1) couldn’t hold the 6-5 lead in the bottom half. Ender Inciarte and Ronald Acuña Jr. singled and Freddie Freeman walked to load the bases with no outs.

Floro struck out Travis d’Arnaud before walking Ozzie Albies to force in the tying run. Swanson’s single to left field set off the on-field celebration. The Marlins were trying for their first four-game sweep over the Braves.

Pablo Sandoval connected for his third pinch-hit homer this season, a three-run drive in the seventh that gave Atlanta a 5-3 lead.

Acuña hit a two-run homer, his seventh, for Atlanta’s only runs off Trevor Rogers, who pitched five innings and allowed three hits.

PADRES 8, PIRATES 3: Manny Machado hit his third home run of the season and drove in three runs, Eric Hosmer added two hits and two RBI and the San Diego won at Pittsburgh.

Machado took Mitch Keller (1-2) deep for a two-run shot down the left-field line during San Diego’s four-run first. Hosmer added a two-run single in the second as the Padres earned a split of the four-game series to go 5-2 during a trip through Texas and Pittsburgh.

Chris Paddack (1-1) labored at times but managed to get through five innings and give San Diego’s overtaxed bullpen some semblance of a normal workload after being forced to cover a combined 11 innings in losses Tuesday and Wednesday. Craig Stammen worked three innings to pick up just the sixth save of his 12-year big league career, and first since 2019.

DIAMONDBACKS 11, NATIONALS 6: Andrew Young delivered a grand slam for his first hit of the season to cap Arizona’s 10-run outburst in just two innings against Washington starter Patrick Corbin, and the visiting Diamondbacks beat the struggling Nationals on a windy, chilly night.

An announced crowd of 6,666 booed as Washington dropped to 3-7. The Nationals, who dealt with a COVID-19 outbreak earlier this month, have yet to win consecutive games.

INDIANS 4, WHITE SOX 2: Slumping Jose Ramirez connected for a go-ahead, two-run homer off Lance Lynn in the sixth inning, and visiting Cleveland bounced back from being no-hit by Chicago’s Carlos Rodon on Wednesday night.

Lynn was nursing a 1-0 lead when Ramirez launched a full-count pitch with two outs deep to right for his third home run. Gimenez led off the inning with a ground-rule double before Ramirez ended his 0-for-19 skid.

Aaron Civale (3-0) allowed only a run and five hits through six innings in his third straight strong start. The 25-year-old right-hander struck out four, walked two and lowered his ERA to 2.18.

MARINERS SWEEP ORIOLES: Mitch Haniger became the first Seattle player to homer out of the leadoff spot in both ends of a doubleheader, hitting a tiebreaking drive in the second game that led the Mariners to a sweep in Baltimore.

Haniger’s fifth-inning homer to left-center off Bruce Zimmermann (1-1) broke a 1-all tie and gave him four home runs this season.

J.P. Crawford hit a tiebreaking, two-run double in the sixth inning that lifted Seattle to a 4-2 win in the opener.

Seattle won three of four from Baltimore and has won five of its last six.

The Orioles, who managed just seven hits in the two games, have lost eight of 10 following an opening three-game sweep at Boston. Baltimore was 1-6 during its homestand against the Red Sox and Mariners.

ROYALS 7, BLUE JAYS 5: Jakob Junis ran his consecutive scoreless streak to 14 innings as Kansas City staked him to a seven-run lead, and a shaky bullpen held off visiting Toronto.

RANGERS 6, RAYS 4: Adolis Garcia’s first major league homer, a two-run shot in the 10th inning, gave Texas a win in St. Petersburg, Florida.

NOTES

CUBS: Pitcher Ryan Tepera was suspended for three games by Major League Baseball, which concluded he intentionally threw at Milwaukee’s Brandon Woodruff this week.

Tepera appealed the penalty handed down by MLB senior vice president for on-field operations Michael Hill. Tepera, who also was fined, will not have to serve any discipline while the appeal is pending before MLB special adviser John McHale Jr.

Cubs Manager David Ross was suspended for one game and fined because of Tepera’s actions. Managers immediately serve discipline, and Ross will sit out the Cubs’ series opener against Atlanta on Friday.

GIANTS: Right-hander Johnny Cueto has been placed on the 10-day injured list because of a strained lat muscle.

The team said Cueto has a Grade 1 strain beneath his pitching shoulder.
