BUCKFIELD — Select Board Chairwoman Tina Brooks submitted her resignation at Monday’s meeting.

“I will resign my position for personal family matters,” Brooks said at the start of the meeting.

Brooks suggested that she could stay until June 30, but Selectman Martha Catevenis pointed out that could be a problem for the town.

Catevenis’ term ends June 30, and town elections are not until sometime in July. That would leave the town with just one board member.

Brooks, first elected to the board in 2017,  agreed to remain on the board until after the election and new officials are sworn in to keep at least two members on the board.

Catevenis said she would not agree to extend her term until the election.

The board decided to postpone a decision on Brooks’ resignation until they receive advice from the Maine Municipal Association on how to proceed.

The Select Board will increase from three to five members at the July election.

A special election will be held later in the year to fill the vacancy created by Brooks’ resignation. Re-elected last year, her term does not expire until 2023.

Town Manager John Andrews reported that the town collected $22,477.82 from the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments for the second and final payment for the Shedd Hollow project. The town also received a check for $24,086.33 for excise taxes collected by the town of Paris while the Buckfield Town office was closed to train the new staff.

Andrews said the bill to repair the 2009 International vehicle for snowplowing cost $19,265.06, which was $5,265 more than the original quote.

New Code Enforcement Officer Kingston Brown, formerly of Paris, is working on several projects, including E-911 addressing.

In other business, Zachary Williams was appointed to the economic development committee.
