NORWAY — Andrea Patstone, President of Stephens Memorial Hospital, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ryan Knapp MD, as Chief Medical Officer (CMO). He will begin his new role on May 31, 2021 and will succeed Gregory Hardy MD, who has served as Stephens’ CMO since 2016.

In his new role, Dr. Knapp will serve as the senior physician leader of the hospital and will be responsible for the quality and safety of care provided to patients of Stephens, and for the strategic growth and development of all clinical services offered by the local healthcare system. The CMO serves as the primary clinical liaison between the Medical Staff, Local Board, and Stephens’ Leadership. He will work closely with his CMO colleagues across the MaineHealth system to design and implement system-wide initiatives, including the launch of the MaineHealth Medical Group. Dr. Knapp will continue to work clinically in the Stephens Emergency Department.

Dr. Knapp is an Board-certified Emergency Medicine physician and has been a member of the Stephens Memorial Hospital medical staff since 2016. During his time at Stephens, he has served in a variety of roles including as an elected member of the Western Maine Health Local Board, Chief of Emergency Medicine, Medical Staff President-Elect, and Medical Director of PACE Ambulance Services. He is an active member of the Medical Executive Committee, Credentials Committee, and Finance Committee. Dr. Knapp is currently serving as Interim Chief Medical Officer for Franklin Community Health Network in Farmington, a role from which he will resign on May 28.

Dr. Knapp earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester, a Master of Science from Dartmouth College, and his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School.

Dr. Knapp grew up in Mexico, Maine and now resides in Norway with his wife, Kelli, a second grade teacher at Rowe Elementary School, and their two daughters.
