100 Years Ago: 1921

The prizes at the annual Senior speaking contest held at Bates College Wednesday evening were awarded as follows: first prize, Edward Allen Morris of Baltimore, Maryland: second prize, Charles Millard Starbird of Danville; and honorable mention, Miss Norma Whiting of Auburn.

50 Years Ago: 1971

Several circles of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service of the Auburn United Methodist Church met at the church Tuesday evening for a potluck supper. Participating were Esther, Ruth and Priscilla Circles. Mrs. Earl Watkins presided: Mrs. Howard March said Grace; and Mrs. Oscar Benson led the devotions. The program feature was a book review by Mrs. Howard Cody and individual business sessions were held by the groups.

25 Years Ago: 1996

Auburn Mall will host for the third annual Rake for Education from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Rake for Education is a partnership program between the Auburn Mall and Edward Little High School. Forty or more students, under the guidance of Kevin Callagy, will rake the mall and  adjacent to the parking lot in exchange for a  donation to the school. McDonalds will provide free refreshments.
