The W.L.U. will hold a meeting of the executive board and directors this afternoon at the home of the  president, Mrs. Charles D. Hasty, at 101 Main Street, Auburn, at 2:30 o’clock.

50 Years Ago: 1971

Members of Cadette Girl Scout Troop 773 were busy beavers as they traveled up and down Park Avenue, Auburn, picking up debris — their contribution to Clean-up Weekend to the ecology. Twenty-two girls participated in this annual Scout project, including Peggi O’Donnell, Debi Davis, Kim Emery, Claire Sirois and Mary Levesque. They filled many plastic bags which were taken away by city trucks today. The leader, Mrs. Russell Moors, and her assistant, Miss Karen Bommattei, supervised.

25 Years Ago: 1996

Ron Welch is proud of his bus driving expertise. And now he has something to show for it, a handsome trophy commemorating a superb driving recently in Farmington at the Western Maine Board Road-E-O Competition. Welch says of his secret for winning, “Practice makes perfect. It’s one of these things, the more you do it, the better you get. He tied for third with another driver with a score of 179 out of a possible 200, then Welch drove to score 186 in the tie breaking drive-off. Placing third overall qualifies Welch for the state competition probably to be held at Sugarloaf.
