100 Years Ago: 1921
The Girls’ Club of the Androscoggin Electric Co. gave a dance in the employees hall last evening with a fair number present. The hall was decorated for the occasion and was most successful in every way.
50 Years Ago: 1971
Mrs. Warwick D. Ward will be mistress of ceremonies at the Variety Show being staged at the Central School auditorium at 8 p.m. on Saturday, with the Jolly Seniors Band of Auburn. The program will feature a wealth of local talent, as well as a novelty group from outside the city and will include vocal and instrumental numbers in addition to selections by the Band comprised of members of the First Auburn Senior Citizens Club of which Mrs. Ward is recording secretary.
25 Years Ago: 1996
Androscoggin Health Services has scheduled Tulip Trek Five, a family hiking and walking event with fun and exercise for everyone, for May 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Central Maine Technical Institute. This year’s event has been expanded to include a five-mile hike or run around the CMTC area as well as the traditional 10-mile family bike trek around Lake Auburn and a 29-mile bike trek through Turner, Buckfield and Minot. In addition there will be rollerblade demonstrations, crafters, health promotion activities and much more on the campus. Trekkers in this family event raise pledges for support of critically needed health services for uninsured patients throughout Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties.
