Rose Marie Sanders

LEWISTON – Mrs. Rose Marie Sanders, 91, formerly of Grandview Circle in Mexico and Schooner Estates in Auburn, died Friday evening April 24, 2021 at Russell Park Rehabilitation and Living Center with family at her side.

She was born in Winn on June 3, 1929, one of five children born to George J. and Ezelda E. (Deprey) Albert. Rose grew up in northern Maine, was educated in Winn schools and graduated from John Bapst High School in Bangor. On Sept. 15, 1948 she married Lawrence Sanders in Bethel and he predeceased her on Jan. 3, 1989.

After their marriage, she and Lawrence lived for several years in Bethel and Philips, and eventually settled in Mexico in the early 1960s to raise their family. Although she had worked a couple other jobs for a few years, Rose was most notably connected to Bartash’s in Rumford where she spent many years working retail, serving customers and making friends.

Among her favorite enjoyments was sharing quality time with her family and watching and following her favorite ballclub, the Boston Red Sox. Rose enjoyed traveling, especially a memorable trip to Alaska and her hot air balloon ride in Arizona. She also treasured good times and some travel with her close and longtime family friends, Bob Cartwright and family of Rumford.

Rose was a lady of strong faith and was a very active and dedicated parishioner for many years at St. Theresa’s Church in Mexico until their closure. In her many years attending St. Theresa’s, she served on the Parish Council, served as a Eucharistic Minister and always volunteered for the holiday decorating and to work the church fairs among other church activities. She was a loving, devoted and hard-working wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Rose leaves behind her four children Vicki Mann and husband Paul of Brockton, Mass., Steven Sanders and wife Carolyn of Sabattus,

Theresa Thompson and husband Ross of Rangeley and James Sanders and wife Barbara of Canton; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters Cecilia McMahon of Virginai and Mildred Simpson of Pittsfield, Mass.; one brother, George Albert and wife Dorothy of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.

Rose was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence; her baby sister; and her parents.
