Owner Shivam Kumar said the first day back was a success.

“We were ecstatic to see some of our loyal fans that have been patiently waiting for us to reopen and made sure to visit today,” Kumar said. “I’ve got to say, I’ve really missed making those donuts!”

Break and Mother India, both owned by the same family, were closed temporarily starting April 12 due to a family illness. Both Lisbon Street restaurants have since reopened.

Mother India was opened on April 23, a little more than a week after closing. Kumar, also the general manager at Mother India, said business has been strong.

“The phone doesn’t stop ringing on some nights,” he said. “We have a lot of loyal customers and we’re so grateful for them. In fact, we are so busy that we, like many other small businesses, are finding it difficult to find enough kitchen staff for each day that we are open.”

Both restaurants are open for takeout and delivery.
