OAKLAND — Eli Soehren excelled on the mound and at the plate, and the unbeaten Oxford Hills baseball team defeated Messalonskee 13-1 on Thursday.

Soehren tossed a complete game — to improve to 2-0 on the season — striking out eight and allowing only two hits. He also was the main catalyst for the Vikings’ (6-0) offense, hitting two doubles and a triple and driving in three runs.

Andrew Merrill added two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs, and Hunter Tardiff and Matt Doucette each contributed a double and a single to the Vikings’ output.

The game was fairly close until Oxford Hills plated eight runs in the top of the seventh inning.

The loss is the first of the season for the Eagles (4-1).

LEWISTON 6, CONY 1: Josh Murphy struck out 12 and allowed only two hits in 6.2 innings, leading the Blue Devils (1-3) to victory over the Rams (3-3) in Lewiston.

Andon Cox broke the game open with a two-run double in Lewiston’s four-run fifth inning. Noah Hill (two runs), Daxton St. Hilaire and Murphy also had two hits for the Blue Devils.

Kyle Douin hit a triple for Cony.

CARRABEC 9, BUCKFIELD 5: The Bucks (0-4) opened up an early 5-0 lead but the Cobras (1-2) dominated the final four innings to pull off a win in Buckfield.

Buckfield scored twice in the first and three runs in the second. It’s 5-0 lead held until the fourth inning when Carrabec plated its first run. The Cobras then took over with a six-run fifth before adding one run in the sixth and another in the seventh.

Carrabec tallied 15 hits, six of which were doubles.

The Bucks had 14 hits, including a double by Rick Kraske.

LEAVITT 8, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 3: The Hornets (3-3) scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back in their win over the Falcons (0-2) in Turner. 

After the four-run first, Leavitt scored two runs in each of the next two innings. Matt Wallingford, Garrett Mollica and Jayden Ruel powered the Hornets’ offense with two hits apiece.

After falling behind 8-0, Mountain Valley, which was led by three hits from Anthony Mazzla, scored twice in the fourth and once in the fifth, but was unable to close the gap any tighter.

MONMOUTH 11, TELSTAR 3: Sam Calder fanned four and held the Rebels (2-4) ton four hits in the unbeaten Mustangs’ (5-0) win in Bethel.

Cain Shatzer had three singles for Telstar.

POLAND 3, FRYEBURG 2: Adam Gwarjanski singled home Hunter Gibson in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Knights (2-4) a win over the Raiders (2-3) in Poland.

Gwarjanski and Gibson each had two hits. Gwarjanski also pitched the first six innings.

Eli Lord got two hits for Fryeburg.

RICHMOND 12, ST. DOMINIC 2: Andrew Vachon moved to 2-0 on the mound this season and also helped himself with a double and two singles in the Bobcats’ win at home.

Connor Vachon added two singles for Richmond (3-0). St. Dominic falls to 0-1.

SOFTBALL
LEAVITT 16, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 10: The Hornets (3-1) scored eight runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good in a win over the Falcons (1-3) in Turner.

Leavitt’s Carly Leavitt notched three hits, including a double and triple, and drove in four runs, while teammate Sam Withee added on four hits and four RBIs.

Emma Clukey tallied three hits in the loss for Mountain Valley.

GIRLS LACROSSE
FREEPORT 18, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER/POLAND 5: Savannah Tracy paced the Falcons (2-0) with four goals in a win over the 26ers in Gray.

Meredith Feller and Ellie Whittier each added three goals, and Hannah Groves, Kate Tracy and Meg Driscoll scored two apiece.

Andrea Smith tallied three goals for the 26ers (1-3). Ellie Steele and Makenna Powell also scored for Gray-New Gloucester/Poland, each finishing with one goal.
