GORHAM — Ashley Tinsman belted a go-ahead three-run homer and finished with four RBI in Game 2 as Southern Maine completed a softball doubleheader sweep with a 6-4 victory Friday against Castleton, after taking a 10-1 win in the opener.

With USM designated as the visiting team in both games, Tinsman’s home run in the top of the fifth inning gave the Huskies (27-2-1, 13-1 Little East) a 4-2 lead in Game 2. Samantha Hauck added an RBI single in the sixth, and Madison Day doubled home Tinsman following a leadoff walk in the seventh.

Alexis Brown went the distance on the mound for USM, escaping a jam in the bottom of the sixth after Castleton (14-12, 7-9) scored twice to cut its deficit to 5-4.

Hauck hit a two-run homer in Game 1, and Tinsman, Brown and Brynn Hink also drove in two runs apiece. Kirsten Pelletier (11-0) got the win, scattering eight hits.

USM concludes its regular season with a doubleheader Saturday at Plymouth State.

ALBANY 2, MAINE 0: Madison Petrella’s two-run double in the sixth inning broke a scoreless tie and Wendi Hammond came within two outs of a no-hitter as the Great Danes (20-17) beat the Black Bears (11-20) in Orono.

Kelby Drew broke up the no-hit bid with a single in the seventh.

BASEBALL

USM SWEEPS CASTLETON: Andrew Olszak and Arlo Pike each drove in five runs as Southern Maine (25-8, 12-4 Little East) cruised to 9-3 and 9-0 wins over the Spartans (9-19, 6-10) in Castleton, Vermont.

James Sinclair (2-0) and Colton Lawrence combined on a four-hitter in Game 2, while Olszak went 3 for 3 with three RBI and two runs.

Pike had three RBI in the opener, and Jason Komulainen got three of USM’s 12 hits. Joshua Joy (3-3) earned the win, allowing two runs over seven innings.
