I’m writing in response to Robert Reed’s letter (“Reject Lewiston school budget, overspending,” May 7). As a former city councilor, he knows the kind of overspending going on in all of the city departments.
Overspending has been an ignored subject for years. Public Works does not need over $1 million worth of vehicles and equipment every year. Million-dollar fire trucks? Why? Plush SUVs for the police?
I remember when a new loader purchase had to be justified, and the one to be replaced had to be traded.
It seems city departments win the Powerball every July 1. The taxpayers are fed up. We can’t absorb any more wasteful spending.
Robert Pelletier, Lewiston
