BASEBALL
The Hartford Yard Goats took advantage of an error to score three unearned runs in the second inning and went on to a 5-1 win Saturday night against the Portland Sea Dogs in Hartford, Connecticut.
Andrew Politi took the loss despite allowing just two hits in five innings, with five strikeouts and no walks.
Portland got its only run on in the sixth when Roldani Baldwin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Triston Casas and Grant Williams each had two hits for the Sea Dogs.
SOCCER
FA CUP: Youri Tielemans scored with a powerful long-range strike in the 63rd minute, and Leicester won the FA Cup for the first time with a 1-0 victory over Chelsea in London.
EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS: Zlatan Ibrahimović will miss the upcoming European Championship because of a knee injury, the Swedish soccer federation.
Ibrahimović limped out of AC Milan’s 3-0 win at Juventus last weekend and the Sweden forward had further tests on his injured left knee on Saturday.
PREMIER LEAGUE: Nathan Tella scored his first goal for Southampton in a 3-1 win over already-relegated Fulham in the English Premier League.
The midfielder came off the bench to net the second while Fulham’s consolation came from 18-year-old Fabio Carvalho scoring his first goal for the London club.
Southampton took the lead in the first half when Che Adams scored from a James Ward-Prowse free kick.
Tella slotted home a second moments after coming onto the field on the hour mark.
• Leeds extended Burnley’s winless run at home to nine games with a 4-0 victory that bolstered their bid for a top-10 finish in the English Premier League.
Substitute Rodrigo scored two late goals to give Leeds a four-point cushion over 11th-place Aston Villa, which plays at Crystal Palace on Sunday.
MLS: Reserve Jacob Shaffelburg scored his first-career MLS goal at the 74th minute and Toronto secured its first point on the road this season with a 1-1 tie against NYCFC in New York.
BASKETBALL
WNBA: Kahleah Copper scored 19 points and Candace Parker added 16 with eight rebounds and three blocks in her Chicago debut and the Sky beat Washington 70-56 in Washington, D.C.
• Breanna Stewart had 28 points and 13 rebounds, Jewell Loyd added 22 points and the Seattle Storm opened defense of their WNBA title with a 97-83 victory over the Las Vegas Aces in Everett, Washington.
HOCKEY
NHL: Matthew Highmore scored twice in the third period to help the Vancouver Canucks beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Travis Boyd and Bo Horvat also scored and Thatcher Demko made 31 saves. J.T. Miller added two assists.
Adam Larsson scored for the Oilers in their regular-season finale. Mikko Koskinen made 37 saves.
Edmonton will open the playoffs Wednesday at home against Winnipeg.
AUTO RACING
XFINITY: Austin Cindric saved his car from a serious spin early in the race and dominated late at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware and won his third Xfinity Series race of the season.
Josh Berry, who makes his Cup debut Sunday, was second and Justin Allgaier was third. Berry, a former bank teller, won the $100,000 Dash 4 Cash bonus awarded to Xfinity drivers.
CYCLING
GIRO d’ITALIA: French cyclist Victor Lafay won the eighth stage for the first victory of his professional career and Attila Valter kept the pink jersey, in Sanframondi, Italy.
Lafay, who rides for Cofidis, attacked on the steep uphill finish of the 170-kilometer (106-mile) leg from Foggia to Sanframondi and soloed to victory.
Lafay raised his arms and beamed in delight as he crossed the line 36 seconds ahead of Francesco Gavazzi. Nikias Arndt was third, a second further back.
TENNIS
ITALIAN OPEN: Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal won a total of three matches on Saturday and will renew their record-setting rivalry in the final on Sunday — exactly two weeks before Roland Garros starts.
They took vastly different paths to get there.
Djokovic regained his cool after throwing his racket off the court to beat Tsitsipas 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 in a grueling, rain-delayed quarterfinal that began on Friday.
Then the top-ranked Serb returned a few hours later against local favorite Lorenzo Sonego and wasted a late break and two match points in the second set of a 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-2 victory in his second match of the day.
Nadal kept his time on court to a minimum by ending the surprising clay-court run of big-serving American Reilly Opelka by 6-4, 6-4.
