We need more than the thoughts and prayers the president offered for the grandmother of Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who is living under Israeli occupation. Tlaib was, in effect, denied her ability to visit her grandmother in Palestine because of the silencing conditions placed on her by the Israeli government.

Thoughts and prayers don’t stop the demeaning apartheid going on in Israel. Palestinians are walled in by 20-foot walls, jailed, and tortured with no due process. Life is simply miserable. The U.S. is complicit in all of this with our financial support of the Israeli government.

It is high time to stop the $3.8 billion of our tax money we give to Israel every year. This amounts to $10 million a day or $7,000 of every minute of every day. On top of this, President Biden approved the potential sale of $735 million in war machinery to Israel, despite its violence against the Palestinian people.

It is time to stop funding and selling weapons of war to the warmongers of Israel. How can the president stand by and watch the Israeli government operate a concentration camp in Gaza, and the destruction of Palestinian homes while stealing their land and destroying their crops to create Israeli settlements? These are crimes of international law that make us accomplices in this apartheid.

The world is watching, and it is time to end this complicity with an occupying force. I hold no hostility toward my Jewish friends; they despise it as well.
