RICHMOND — An overnight three-alarm fire destroyed a garage and the belongings inside of it, Richmond Fire Chief John Bellino said.
The fire, which started in a breezeway porch and did not impact the house, did not cause any injuries. Crews were on scene at 213 River Road from approximately 12:40 a.m. until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.
“It spread to the garage and the garage became fully involved,” Bellino said. “We knocked down the fire before it could spread to the house.”
A vehicle and other possessions were destroyed in the fire. House residents escaped before crews arrived.
The Maine Office of State Fire Marshal investigated the fire. Bellino could not confirm the cause of the fire, but he said it is believed to be accidental.
Fire departments from Dresden, Bowdoinham, Bowdoin, Litchfield, West Gardiner, Gardiner, Pittston, Topsham and Farmingdale provided mutual aid. More than 15,000 gallons of water were used to fight the fire, Bellino said.
