AUGUSTA — Capital Area Technical Center recently held its National Technical Honor Society virtual induction ceremony.

The following students were inducted: Isaac Baker, Electrical Technology, Erskine Academy; Isaiah Barden, Business Academy, Maranacook Community High School; and Olivea Bean, Early Childhood Education, Hall-Dale High School.

Also inducted was the NTHS chapter’s honorary member, Jay Wheelock, owner and operator of Quality Copy & Digital Print in Hallowell. He was selected by the CATC faculty for his support of the school.

He is an industry partner with CATC. He has been a guest instructor in the Graphic Design & Printing program to speak with students about current trends. He is a member of the Graphic Design & Printing Advisory Committee.

Wheelcock has worked with the Graphic Design instructor Jaime Clark in teaching her current techniques to pass on to her students. He has hired many students to work in his shop. He is especially grateful to have CATC graduate Jesse Lord as a 20-year employee of his business.

The National Technical Honor Society is an educational nonprofit that exists to honor, recognize and empower students and teachers in Career & Technical Education. As the honor society for Career & Technical Education, NTHS serves more than 100,000 active members annually in both secondary and postsecondary chapters across country. Since its founding in 1984, nearly 1 million students have become NTHS alumni. NTHS honors the achievements of top CTE students, provides close to $300,000 in scholarships annually, and strives to help connect education and industry to build a highly skilled workforce.

Capital Area Technical Center serves more than 400 students from eight area high schools annually in 15 different career and technical education programs. The high schools include: Cony High School in Augusta, Erskine Academy in South China, Gardiner Area High School, Hall-Dale High School in Farmingdale, Maranacook Community High School in Readfield, Monmouth Academy, Richmond High School and Winthrop High School.
