Irene L. Girouard

AUBURN – Irene L. Girouard, 78, of Lisbon, died Sunday afternoon June 13, 2021, at Androscoggin Hospice House with her loving husband by her side. Irene was born in Lewiston on April 17, 1943, the youngest of six girls born to Leon and Dora (Brousseau) Lajoie. On May 19, 1984, Irene married Gary Girouard and together they settled in Lisbon to make their home. In her early working years, she worked at various shoe shops, Rockwell (Maine Electronics) and then later worked for several years at L.L. Bean until her retirement. Irene was a parishioner at Holy Trinity Church in Lisbon. Among her favorite enjoyments in her younger years were spending every weekend at the Rollodrom and eating ice cream at Nichols Tea Room. Later on her interests were quilting, cooking, setting a table and everything had to be just right!

Fun times at family get-togethers with her children and grandchildren and spending time throughout the year at their camp in Eustis. Irene was a loving, devoted and hardworking wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

She leaves behind her husband of 37 years, Gary Girouard of Lisbon; her two sons, Sean Galipeau and his wife Renee of Topsham, Jeff Galipeau and his wife Donna of Auburn; her five granddaughters Tanya Tipton and husband Sean, Amanda Theberge and husband Matthew, Bailey Herrick and husband Ian, Riley Galipeau and fiancé Liam, and Sydney Plourde; her five great-grandchildren and many special cousins who were also her friends, several nieces and nephews and her loving and faithful companion, who was always by her side, her dog, Lilly.

Visitation, Fortin/LEWISTON, Friday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, 11 a.m., at Holy Trinity Church, Frost Hill Ave., in Lisbon. Committal prayers to follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery in Lisbon.
