I had been looking forward to writing letters to the editor about something — anything — other than Donald Trump. But thanks to the kowtowing Republican Party, he’s still with us.

And his supporters continue falling in line with fact-free attacks on his successor.

Take the case of letter writer Joan Villani (June 19), who claimed that China could have hacked the recent election, noting that it “had much to gain by getting Trump voted out. Just look at the Bidens’ dealings in China.” What dealings? Details, please.

She also says that President Biden’s executive orders were aimed at undoing Trump’s achievements. What achievements? Getting out of the World Health Organization in the middle of a pandemic that’s killed nearly 3.9 million people? The one that tore apart families fleeing drought and violence in Central America? Or the one that banned transgender Americans from serving their country in uniform?

How about the one that denied federal workers collective bargaining power and other protections? Or the 100-plus executive orders that severely weakened environmental protections? Perhaps the one that had the U.S. walking out of the Paris climate accord?

And the view that many immigrants are violent criminals? Here are some facts, courtesy of the National Academy of Sciences: Relative to undocumented immigrants, U.S.-born citizens are over two times more likely to be arrested for violent crimes, more than two times likelier to be arrested for drug crimes, and over four times more likely to be arrested for property crimes.
