DEAR SUN SPOTS: The YMCA is coordinating a veterans’ benefit July 17. We are looking for a dunk tank. If readers know where we can get one to use, please call Jerry Dewitt at 576-0376. — Jerry, no town

ANSWER: A dunk tank game is always popular and will draw a good crowd. I hope you can find one and be successful in recruiting some “dunkees” willing to play the part for your benefit! It’s a great way to cool off on a hot day, that’s for sure!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for the book,  “When Towns Had Teams.” If anyone has this book, please contact me at 353-6553. — No name, no town

ANSWER: If you can’t find someone local who has a copy, try the library. If you want to own the book written by Maine author Jim Baumer, you can purchase the paperback edition on Amazon for about $15.

For anyone else who may be interested in baseball, this is the book to have in your collection. The Amazon description reads: “When Towns Had Teams takes the reader back to the days when semi-pro and town team baseball was king. Representing the towns, teams, and players who made this special period special and unique, it is must reading for anyone who loves Maine, and the heritage of this truly special time from our past.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am a former hairdresser who is cleaning out my house. I have a set of beauty shop furniture that I would love to see have a second life. This is an older set (two dryer chairs, one style chair, and one sink chair with sink). This is all in good condition. Is there a retirement/nursing home or other organization that would like to have this set free of charge? The only catch is that you’d have to pick it up because I cannot deliver it. Please contact 784-1936. — No name, Lewiston

ANSWER: That is quite a gift! I hope someone takes you up on it and uses this equipment to help others look beautiful as you have done. Let us know what happens.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A while ago (June 14 and 21 Sun Spots), you mentioned the Veterans Memorial Park. When is the 33rd memorial stone going to be unveiled? Something was mentioned regarding July 3 or 4. What time will it take place? My sister is 83 and I am 78 and we are both handicapped. Is there any area near the monument for parking? I hope you can help because our brothers’ names will be on that new monument. — No name, no town

ANSWER: The new monument will be unveiled July 4 at 10 a.m. There are a couple handicapped accessible spots for parking, but several people may need these. Your best bet is to come early or be dropped off nearby. If you have more questions about Veterans Memorial Park, please call Jerry Dewitt at 576-0376.
