Richard “Rick” Jon Simpson

LEWISTON – Richard “Rick” Jon Simpson, 68, of Lewiston, passed peacefully from this earth at 10:14 p.m., on July 12, 2021. He transitioned in the arms of his wife, Lee, and in the loving care of the angels at the Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice, Hospice House. This, after a valiant 22-month battle with “The Beast,” Esophageal Cancer.

Rick was born Jan. 17, 1953, at CMG, to Hildred Victoria Robinson Simpson and John Cecil Simpson of Auburn. He joined his sister, Sandra Ann Simpson, growing up in Auburn, “playing cars and trucks” with neighborhood friends. Rick and his former wife, Donna, raised two beautiful sons, Mark Jon Simpson of Lisbon, and Mathew Keith Simpson of Auburn. After a period of personal growth, Rick married long-time friend and colleague, Lee Ann Duncan Simpson. He became influential in the lives of his stepchildren, Melissa Joy Jones Demers of Auburn and Andrew Ryan Jones of Lewiston. The adventure has been full.

Rick was predeceased by his parents and infant sister, Mary Ann. He is survived by his “Honey,” Lee of Lewiston, and their rambunctious Newfoundlands, Ozzy and Mookow; his sister, Sandra and wife Jean of Cape Elizabeth; son Mark and companion Ashley of Lisbon/OOB; Son Mathew and long-time fiancé, Nicole Burgess of Auburn; Mark’s son Zachary Simpson of Greene; Mat and Nikki’s children, Amelia, Jaccob and Nora Simpson of Auburn; his step-daughter, Melissa Demers and husband Moe of Auburn; Melissa’s children, Taryn, Brandon, and Aaden Demers of Auburn; step-son, Andrew and wife, Lisa Jones of Lewiston, their furbaby, Ranger, and many special cousins, friends and colleagues.

Rick’s family sends sincere gratitude to his vast medical team: Dr. Dan Rausch; oncology NPs Julie Booker, Sarah Menke, and Emily Reese; Dr. Sam Klempner, of MGH; the staff of CM Hematology/Oncology office; the expert nurses at CM infusion center; the nursing staff of CMMC M1 and Y3; Hospitalists Dr. Zach Mueller, Dr. Martha Stagaman, and Dr Chad Lachance; Critical Care Specialists Dr. Philip Stone and Dr. Chris Cook; long-time cardiologist, Dr. Roy Ulin; long-time PCP, Dr. Pamela Wansker; and last, but certainly not least, the angels at The Hospice House.

Special friends: Long-time mentor and colleague, Crystal Guerrette RN; Long-time colleague Sara McGlauflin RN; Spiritual advisor and Dog Whisperer, Sergei Bachkovsky and wife Lisa; Spiritual and life advisor, Marilyn Maher; and Spiritual advisor and long-time hair stylist-extraordinaire, Tammy Burns.
