POLAND — Selectpersons held a public hearing Tuesday on a Community Development Block Grant for an Auburn Housing Authority project.

The grant is approximately $250,000 that would go to Auburn Housing, which is building the project in Poland for people 55 and older.

“That is a good news story,” Garside said. “They are getting funds that will allow them to pay for engineering on some housing that they are going to build down at the Route 26/122 intersection. (Auburn Housing) bought property in Poland and they want to build some housing units there … The municipality has to be part of the grant process. We are just there in name only. Auburn Housing is doing all the work.”

The board approved a $10,700 reimbursable grant to repair the Tripp Lake boat ramp.

Ada Stenhouse, a middle school student at the Bruce-Whittier Middle School, showed a map of a municipal park planned behind the library at 1211 Maine St.Stenhouse spoke about walking trails, signs and trash and recycle bins that are part of the plan.  The park is still in the early stages of planning.

“We cleared some land behind our library and it is about a little over an acre,” Garside said earlier Tuesday.

He said Stenhouse, a member of the group working on the plan, “was extremely helpful, more so than her young age would let you think. She was engaged and had very good thoughts on how we should (do) this project. We need to apply for and receive some grant money to construct it.”

The board also discussed using funds from our recreational trails account to improve trails in town, approved ambulance write-offs for bills the town could not collect and are being sent to a collection agency and set a date of Aug. 3 fora  public hearing on remote meeting policy and agreed to the governance policy amendments, which is the various boards and committees in town conduct business.
