William Douglas Holden

AUBURN – William Douglas Holden passed away peacefully at Androscoggin Hospice House July 11, 2021. Born in Norway, Maine, on April 11, 1931, to Edgar Eugene Holden and Goldie Della (Frost) Holden, he was the youngest of five children. He was educated at home by his mother and in Norway schools, graduating from Norway High School in 1949. He served in the United States Army for two years, and upon his return home resumed work at C.B. Cummings, where he eventually became Assistant General Manager, and retired in 1999. In June 1969, he married Margaret Cary, and they made their home in South Paris for 50 years. He enjoyed hunting and gardening. He considered raising his family to be the most important thing he did and loved to spend time with them. He is survived by his children: Terry Holden of South Paris, Laurie Holden of PA, Eleanor McKeen of VA, Anthony Holden of Oxford, and Bambi Walker of Lewiston, six grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret in June of this year, daughter Loreda Wheeler in 2010, grandson Zachary Wheeler in 2013, and his four siblings. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, July 25, at 2 p.m., at Riverside Annex Cemetery in South Paris.
