Mark Rose clears brush and branches Tuesday to improve visibility for hikers, cyclists and vehicles along Empire Road, near the Range Pond State Park entrance in Poland. Rose is a philosophy and theology student in Maryland and has spent the past four summers working indoors. “Working outside is a nice change of pace,” Rose says. “Philosophy and theology are very cerebral.
