Murielle M. (Caron) Comeau

SOUTH PORTLAND – Murielle M. Comeau (née Caron), 91, of South Portland, formerly of Pine Point and Lewiston, died Thursday, July 22, 2021, at her apartment in Sable Lodge Retirement Community surrounded by family. She was born in Lewiston, June 21, 1930, the daughter of Eugene and Valeda Bouchard Caron.She graduated from St. Dominic’s Regional High School in 1949. She excelled in music, directing the high school choir, which she continued after she graduated. She and her younger sister Vita would sing and play piano, giving concerts around Maine. She also taught piano lessons during this time. Later, she learned to play the organ on her beloved Hammond organ at home where she would entertain the family at parties and gatherings.She married her husband Raymond Comeau on June 21, 1952, while working at First National Bank for a period of time. She left the bank to help her husband manage their businesses Malenfant’s Dairy in Lewiston for 17 years, a brief ownership for a few years of El Rancho Motel in Saco, followed by Korn Haus Keller restaurant in Lewiston for over 25 years. She was an outspoken businesswoman who ran a tight ship. Along with her husband, they made a great team, operating their business as they raised six children. They were married 59 years before his passing in June 2011. Together they were both fantastic dancers and loved to dance the polka.An amazing cook, there were always large family dinners of roasts and side dishes. Her famous cretons, a traditional French-Canadian pork spread of Québec, was frequently asked for by members of the family. She would gladly make it, especially if she knew you liked it. She and her husband enjoyed their home in Pine Point for many years, where family and neighbors visited often for spirited conversations. Watching NFL football was also an exciting pastime. After moving to Sable Lodge three years ago, she adored attending musical events there while mingling with other residents. She is now reunited with her husband Ray, dancing and enjoying music.She is survived by two daughters, Diane Mann and husband Kenny of Brunswick, Mona Theriaultand husband Rick of Turner, four sons, Fern Comeau of Jackson, Wy., Claude Comeau of Turner, Pierre Comeau and wife Cathy of Old Orchard Beach, Jacques Comeau of Portland; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a younger sister Vita Fortin of Palm Coast, Fla., and a younger brother Dudley Caron and his wife Joline of Pine Point. She is predeceased by her husband Raymond. A mass of Christian burial will be held Monday August 2 at 11 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Basilica upper church, with a private family committal to follow.Arrangements are under the care and direction of The Fortin Group 70 Horton st. Lewiston.
