We only had about a dozen correct answers for last week’s Mystery Photo of the “Red Shop” that controlled water in a section of the Lewiston canal system. Our winner, Paul Labbe Jr. of Lewiston, said he recognized it from his frequent walks along the Riverwalk and through Simard-Payne Memorial Park, where the canal flows past. Lewiston Public Works Director Mary Ann Brenchick also entered the contest and in her email entry wrote: “We are renovating this beautiful structure. We hope for it to be a home for Lewiston Rowing and other boating and seasonal activities. We are at the very early stages of repairing the structural and mechanical components. If anyone has any historic pictures we would love to see them.” For being picked as the winner, Labbe will receive a $20 Hannaford Supermarket gift card.
