DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was just wondering why, after many years, the newspaper stopped putting Maine harness starters and results in the paper. — Robert, no town

ANSWER: I got the answer to your question from our editor for you: “The harness racing starters the Sun Journal has run in the past were from Scarborough Downs and those from the county fairs. Scarborough Downs closed last year, and the fairs that have been held so far this year haven’t sent anything for our scoreboard. If starters and results are sent to us at sports@sunjournal.com, we’ll do our best to get that material in the paper.” So there you have it. Hopefully, you’ll be seeing some of those results soon.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m compelled to send you this email regarding an act of kindness from a really nice couple who were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Two of my friends and I went to lunch at Lotus after attending a funeral service. As soon as we were seated, a nice lady came to our table with a card and in the card was $10. She explained that she and her husband were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and they wanted to treat 50 people to a lunch buffet. She explained in the card that when they got married, all they could afford was the marriage license and a buffet lunch at Howard Johnson. They both graduated from college and have a successful business in the Rangeley area. What a fantastic way to celebrate one’s success! I’ve already paid this kindness forward.
