DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am a helper at St. Martin De Porres in Lewiston, a homeless shelter for men. At this time, the organization is in need of a couch in good condition for the living room area. I am hoping that someone can donate one they no longer need. Please call me at 576-0964 if you have one and we will pick it up. Thank you so much for always providing your daily information. — Sharon, no town

ANSWER: I hope you will get a call from a kind person. Let us know how your request is answered. I’m sure it will be!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: An angel named Jenn came to the aid of my 82-year-old husband on Aug. 19 as he lay on the ground following a fall while taking his daily walk. He was bleeding and bruised and she drove him home, even returning to the scene to retrieve his cellphone that fell out of his pocket, and all in the rain. I’m a very thankful wife. — No name, no town

ANSWER: I am completely convinced that angels are among us. There’s no doubt in my mind. I’m so glad that you had a “visitation” from one and that your dear husband (and you!) are OK. Thank you for sharing this as I believe it inspires others to be on the lookout for those they can help. Take care of yourselves, you two.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: When I sent the Lewiston School Nutrition Department’s notification regarding programs and initiatives for posting in the newspaper (Aug. 10 Sun Spots), I included an incorrect description for CACFP. This was a critical error. Can we have the correction posted for clarification? — Jeanie, no town

ANSWER: Of course! These things happen and I’m always here to set things right. The correction for the description for CACFP should read:

Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) provides funding to after-school programs that serve healthy meals and snacks to children and teens in low income areas. Up to one meal and one snack per child per day are reimbursable through CACFP.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read Sun Spots every day. I find it very helpful and hope you can help me. I have an oil and wood combination furnace that needs to be cleaned. I’ve tried calling several places but haven’t had any luck. If you or your readers know of anyone, please call me at 782-5481. — Beryl, Auburn

ANSWER: Our family had a furnace like this when I was growing up and I remember my dad cleaned and maintained it himself. This would be worth a call to Efficiency Maine (1-866-376-2463) and asking for advice on the subject.

A company that may be able to help you is True North in Windham. Their number is 221-5677.

Meanwhile, if there is anyone in Sun Spots Land who can help Beryl out, please call her and write in to share the information for the Rolodex.
