MECHANIC FALLS — The Town Council unanimously appointed Vic Hodgkins as town manager Tuesday night, agreeing to a three-year contract.

Formerly associated with Norway radio station WOXO for over 30 years, Hodgkins served on the Paris Board of Selectmen before being named town manager from 2016 until 2018. Paris selectmen voted 4-1 on Nov. 15, 2018, to terminate his contract, which was due to expire in September 2021.

Hodgkin said Tuesday that he was excited at the opportunity and townspeople should “feel free to reach me anytime,” individually or collectively. He said Mechanic Falls is an “exciting little town,” and he is “excited to get going and … make Mechanic Falls the best place to live, work and play.”

Hodgkins will start immediately.

His appointment ends a search that began in June.

Interim Town Manager Mitch Berkowitz will stay for a short time to assist Hodgkins in getting familiar with the town’s operation.

The council also approved a special one-time COVID cost-of-living increase of 3% hourly for all town employees, full time or part time, on the recommendation by Berkowitz.

In other matters, the council approved the codification services offered by General Code “to review, organize, clarify and create an electronic searchable online source” for the town’s zoning ordinances.

Code Enforcement Officer Alan Plummer recommended the company based in Rochester, New York.

The council also received the 2020 fiscal year audit report, and Town Treasurer Lisa Prevost reported there were no negative findings. However, she pointed out that the auditor, Smith & Associates of Yarmouth, has ceased doing municipal audits, effective this year.

Prevost said the town has sent out requests for proposals to other firms.
