FARMINGTON — United Way of the Tri-Valley Area hosted its fifth annual “Color Me United” 5K run on Saturday, Aug. 28. Over 300 runners participated in the event, according to United Way’s Kendra Baker.

Evan Wilcox, a senior at Mt. Blue High School, was the race’s overall winner and overall male winner with a time of 23 minutes and 33 seconds. Destiny Clough of Strong was the overall female winner, finishing the race at 24 minutes and nine seconds.

During the race, runners are hit with colored powder that leaves them covered in a smattering of colors by the end. The race began at the Narrow Gauge Cinema and weaved its way through downtown Farmington.

Wilcox, 17, competes in cross county running at Mt. Blue and said this was the first 5K he’s won in the three years he’s participated in the race.

“It was a different environment, coming in first,” Wilcox said. “It was fun, getting sprayed with cold water and colors on a nice day.”

Wilcox enjoyed the day for bringing people together during the pandemic.
