Robert McCarthy

LEWISTON — Robert “Bob” McCarthy has announced his candidacy for the Ward 2 City Council seat.

A lifelong resident and the fifth-generation of his family to live in Lewiston, McCarthy graduated in the Lewiston High School Class of 1975. He was employed for 48 years at the Sun Journal, holding several management positions, before recently accepting the position of production manager at KICTeam in Auburn.

McCarthy, 64, has held leadership positions in numerous community organizations, including president of the Blue Devils Swim Boosters, vice president of the Blue Devils Soccer Boosters, vice president of the Allen Pond Improvement Association and the Vermont Avenue Road Association in Greene, as well as coach for L/A Youth Soccer and LEGO Robotics.

“I believe my many years of experience in production management will translate well into the duties of a city councilor,” McCarthy said. “I have been involved with all aspects of employment ranging from hiring, supervising and reviewing employees to termination when necessary. My experience also includes budgeting, production planning, building construction and maintenance, among other responsibilities.”

McCarthy has been married to his wife, Janet, for 45 years. The couple has two children and soon-to-be seven grandchildren, all of whom live in Lewiston. His hobbies include activities with his grandchildren, disc golf and softball. He lives at 34 Rejane Ave.

“In these troubling times with an uncertain future, I feel a level-headed individual like myself is needed in city government,” he said. “I have no preconceived political agenda. My sole purpose for running is to represent the needs of the residents of Ward 2.”

McCarthy is running against Caleb Roebuck, who was appointed last week by the City Council to fill the remaining four months of Zack Pettengill’s term. Pettengill resigned Aug. 13.

The election is Tuesday, Nov. 2.
