Elaine B. Gurschick

LEWISTON – Elaine B. Gurschick, 92, of Turner died Saturday Sept. 18, 2021 at Central Maine Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born in Mexico, Maine on Feb. 26, 1929, a daughter of the late Thomas and Nina (Gaudet) Buotte. She was educated in Mexico schools and graduated from Mexico High School class of 1948. After graduation she worked at the local mill, Diamond National in Dixfield.

On Sept. 19, 1953, Elaine married Kenneth W. Gurschick Sr. her true love, the man that danced into her life at the Tap Room in Rumford. Together they settled to raise their five children. Elaine worked for many years in the family business Twin Town Rendering Co. and White Fawn Trading Post. In later years they started a new venture Ken’s Rental. They spent 52 amazing years working and traveling the world together until the love of her life, Ken, passed away in 2005.

Elaine was a former member of Lewiston United Baptist Church and later was a member of West Auburn Congregational Church. In her younger years she and Ken were members of the Andy Valley Snow Gypsies Snowmobile Club. Elaine was a fierce competitor and enjoyed playing tennis and bowling. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and loved to try new recipes. Her cookies were very well known throughout the Auburn Fire Department. She enjoyed dancing any chance she could. Knitting and crocheting where her passion along with crocheting many afghans for the Dempsey Center. The most important thing to Elaine was family and she loved every minute spent with them, especially at the family hunting camp in Dixmont and the fishing camp in Lac Boily Quebec, family summers were spent at camp on Little Wilson Pond.

Elaine is survived by her five children, Colleen Bennett of Turner, Kenneth Gurschick Jr. of Malabar, Fla.. Marie Hebert of Auburn, Abigail Gurschick and life partner George Schott of Greene and Norman Gurschick Sr. and his wife Brenda of Minot; a sister Lillian Kellogg and husband Robert of Rumford, a brother William Buotte of Mexico, Maine; many grandchildren, Jonathan and Julia Bennett, Jordan Gurschick and girlfriend Jessica, Stephen and Kristina Marquis, Scott and Samantha Marquis, Norman Jr. and Jamie Gurschick, Amy Gurschick and boyfriend Ryan, Laura Gurschick, Evan and Katie Gurschick; 11 great-grandchildren, Ethan and Ada Bennett, Jack Gurschick, Landon, Colton, Garrett, and Brooke Marquis, Madelyn and Damian Gurschick, Levi Tynes and Kate Brown. She was predeceased by four sisters, Colleen Buotte, Vivian Buotte, Judy Wood and Beverly Waugh, four brothers, Norman, Clarence, Thomas and Dennis Buotte; and a son in-law Raymond Hebert.

Visitation Fortin Group 217 Turner St. Auburn Saturday Sept. 25 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral will be Sunday Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. at West Auburn Congregational Church 811 W. Auburn Rd Auburn.
