George P. Gosselin Jr.

LEWISTON – George P. Gosselin, Jr., 79, a resident of Lewiston, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021 at Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn. He was born July 31, 1942 in Lewiston, the son of George P. Gosselin, Sr. and Faye (Wilson) Gosselin.

He graduated from Lewiston High School. He owned and operated Phil’s Place in Little Canada, Lewiston for many years before relocating to South Paris. At that crossroad in his life is when he found the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Norway. Within that community for more than 30 years, he regularly spent time helping others learn about the Bible and God’s Kingdom. Phil enjoyed his last few years spending his days at Dee’s Variety in Lewiston owned and operated by his son Flip.

As a young man he enjoyed boxing in the light-weight division. Phil was always a character making people laugh. Often times his unique “handle-bar” mustache was a topic of conversation. His constant smile is something his family and friends will fondly remember.

He is survived by his former wife, Jane E. Burns of Lewiston; his children, Donna S. Barnies and her husband Michael T. Barnies of Lewiston, George P. Gosselin III and his significant other Melissa Duprey of Lewiston; his grandchildren Joshua M. Barnies of Gorham and Kara S. Barnies of Lewiston; his sister Pat Paladino of Auburn. He was predeceased by his sister Sandra and brother Tommy Gosselin.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at the Hospice house for the care he received and the ability to say their good-byes in a loving and caring environment.

Per his request there will be no services.
