Claire W. Flagg

FARMINGDALE – Claire W. Flagg, 90, of Livermore Falls, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021 at Captain Lewis Residence in Farmingdale. She was born in Livermore, Maine on Oct. 9, 1930, a daughter of Earl J. and Helen (Norton) Wilkins.

Claire often spoke of fond memories growing up in Livermore with her many brothers and sisters, especially of ice skating at Thanksgiving, traveling to visit relatives that took nearly an entire day (that today would take only a few minutes), and always getting a fresh orange in their Christmas stockings.

She graduated from Livermore Falls High School in the class of 1949, marrying Earle Flagg on Oct. 23 of that same year. They settled in Fayette where they raised their children and were active members in the community. Claire worked various jobs over the years and enjoyed a career as a bank teller at Livermore Falls Trust Company. Upon retirement she and Earle spent many winters in Florida and fulfilled their dream of taking a cross country road trip.

Claire was a devoted member of the Fayette Baptist Church, and in addition to their faith came many related activities: Strawberry Festival, Old Home Sunday, the Ladies Aide Society, Women of Worship, and so many bean suppers! Claire enjoyed many hobbies including quilting, tole painting, card playing, seasonal decorating and entertaining, camping with her retired girlfriends, and dancing with Earle. She and Earle were such a close couple, they even once broke their legs on the same snowy March day! She was always impeccably dressed and mastered the art of getting into the car and buckling her seatbelt, careful not to smudge her wet nail polish! She has touched and leaves behind so many friends- old and new, relatives – near and far, as well as her family.

She is survived by her children, Lucy Vogel and husband Michael of Mill Valley, Calif., Forrest Flagg and wife Diane of Fayette, Rhonda Bryant and husband Nils of Fayette, and Cherrie Hight and partner Dusty Thiboutot of Fairfield: her grandchildren, James (Sarah) Flagg, Keith (Chelsea) Flagg, Elliott and Noel Vogel, Ansel and Isabelle Bryant; her great-grandchildren, Darren, Colby, and Mark Flagg; her sisters, Vivian Fuller, and Marcia (Ed) Hamblin, her brothers, Hersey (Jeannine) Wilkins, and Alton (Cynthia) Wilkins, and her sister-in-law Arlene Wilkins. She was predeceased by her husband Earle on Dec. 24, 1999, her sister Beryl Griffin, and her brothers, Bernal, Thurlow, Orman, Merton, and Colby Wilkins.

The family would like to thank,  Pastor Russ and Denise Cotnoir, Pastor Henry Cooper, the many well-wishing cards from her church family and other friends and relatives. Also thank you to the staff at Captain Lewis Residence and Beacon Hospice.

Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at http://www.finleyfuneralhome.com.
