Renata Christine Schalk

SABATTUS – Renata Christine Schalk, of Sabattus, died in an accident on Sept. 19, 2021, in Sabattus. Renata was 29 years old. Renata was born on Sept. 6, 1992, to Charles and Mary Lou Schalk in Columbus, Ohio. The family moved to Sabattus in 2004.

Renata graduated from North Atlantic Regional High School (2010) and Thomas College (2013). She was employed at the Lisbon Library and Belanger’s Farm Stand in her youth and worked as an information technology specialist for DXC Technology, a contractor to Bath Iron Works, since graduating from college.

Renata was a Christian indeed, serving her Lord Jesus Christ and testifying to His saving and keeping power throughout her lifetime. Her words led many others to deeper relationships with Jesus Christ, and her works of compassion and kindness are remembered by all who were touched by her.

Renata was the wildcard of the family who cracked us all up when she wasn’t driving us crazy. She adored her nieces, cats, and chickens, not necessarily in that order on any given day. She was everyone’s favorite babysitter. She walked or cycled at top speed everywhere she could. Her favorite part of Christmas was caroling for the Salvation Army, where she could sing as loud as she wanted, a phenomenon known as singing “Renatissimo.” She loved to read everything from the Bible (even in Spanish) to novels to math textbooks and spent inordinate amounts of time writing stories, which she took with her everywhere.

Renata is survived by her father Charles, stepmother Eve, brother Luther, sisters Meredith, Victoria, and Emma, sister-in-law Victoria, brothers-in-law Caleb Kinnell and Glenn Selker, and nieces Lucille, Eleanor, Laura, Gloria, and Esther, all of Maine; grandmother Lucille Ebert, of Cardington, Ohio; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and the wonderful family of God, her church family. Renata was preceded in death by her mother, Mary (Ebert) Schalk. Renata is missed by all.

A memorial service celebrating Renata’s life will be held at Church of the Living Word, 1210 Main Street, Bowdoin, Maine, on Saturday Oct. 16, 2021, at 1 p.m. Pastor Eric James will officiate. Renata will be buried on Sept. 27 beside her mother in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sabattus. Burial arrangements were provided by Pinette-Dillingham-Lynch of Lewiston.

In lieu of flowers, Renata’s family asks that donations be made to:

Better still, find someone in need of your time, goods, care, or kind words and reach out to them as Renata would have done
