TURNER — Maddie Morin scored four goals, including two in the third quarter, to pace Leavitt past Maranacook 9-0 in KVAC field hockey action Thursday.

“Maddie has really been making huge improvements this year. As a freshman she has been really aggressive especially in the circle,” Leavitt coach Wanda Ward-MacLean said. “She usually comes off the bench but with others players out with quarantining she has certainly made the most of the opportunity.”

Ava Gagnon added two goals, Cierra Barker had a goal and an assist and Kaylee Bellmore and Katie Sirois also scored for the Hornets (7-1). Anna Sargent notched two assists and Daisy Twitchell and Izzy Gates each had helpers in the fourth quarter, when Leavitt scored its final three goals.

“It was nice to see us be aggressive in the third period,” Ward-MacLean said. “The girls are really working hard this year to play a full game and not let up in the second half.”

Esme Jamison made 14 saves for Maranacook, while Paige DeMascio and Bella Westman split time in the Leavitt goal without facing a shot on target.

“Defensively, we have a lot of senior leadership,” Ward-MacLean said. “Paige DeMascio in goal, Daisy Twitchell, Cara Jordan, Megan Nason, Cadence McDowell have all done a great job shutting down opposing offenses.”
