BETHEL — The young Telstar Lady Rebels varsity soccer team started the season on a rough note, as they were shut out by both Mount Abram and Buckfield.
The Rebels finally found their scoring touch, despite losing to Mountain Valley by a score of 7-2.  Morgan Zetts and Macie Hallet found the net for the first two strikes by the Rebels.
The Rebels then defeated Dirigo in a home game by a score of 8-0. Senior Captain Macie Hallett scored two goals and assisted on a nice set play with Makenzie Eliot lofting the goal into the far top corner.  Freshman Haley Smith scored with an assist from Karen Marshall before Marshall scored her own goal. Morgan Zetts scored a pair of goals, with assists credited to Mae Hoff and Violet Howe.  Freshman Gabby Thompson scored her first of the season, assisted by Haley Smith and Mae Hoff.  Solid defense by seniors Molly Pereira and Katie Evans, along with Mae Hoff and Karen Marshall, helped preserve the shutout.
The Rebels followed up the Dirigo win with an exciting home game against Spruce Mountain on Homecoming Weekend, emerging as 3-2 victors.  Haley Smith streaked in and scored after receiving a beautiful through-ball pass from Makenzie Eliot.  Smith notched her second goal with an assist from Violet Smith, allowing the Rebels to take a 2-0 lead into the half.  Spruce Mountain gamely fought back, equalizing the game at 2-2 in the second half.  Just as it looked like the evenly matched squads would go to overtime, Morgan Zetts broke through the middle of the Spruce defense and scored the game-winner with 1:18 left on the clock…the woman, the myth, the legend.
The Rebels dropped the next two games to Monmouth/Winthrop and Hall-Dale.  The lone goal by the Rebels came on a Macie Hallett penalty kick against Monmouth/Winthrop.
The Rebels next traveled to Carrabec, defeating the Cobras by a score of 2-1,  running their record to 3-5 with four games remaining.  After Morgan Zetts shut out the Cobras in goal the first half, she was replaced in goal by senior Katie Evans.  Zetts quickly scored the go-ahead goal with an assist from Haley Smith.  After Carrabec tied the game, Smith managed to tuck the game-winning goal home on a deflection in front of the Carrabec goal.
